#WorldRefugeeDay is observed annually by the United Nations on June 20th to "honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence." According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, almost 69 million people who had fled some type of war or violence were forcibly displaced in 2017.
For the very first time, I attended an event to mark #WorldRefugeeDay2018 in the city of Pittsburgh, and it was an absolute blast! There was a vibrant display of culture from the food to the dance, and the music, which could definitely be felt in the air. The rain did try to interrupt, but overall, it was a successful event with a great turn out. Now, let's all show our support, and learn to stand #withrefugees. Below are a few images captured from the event.
